Boom goes the dynamite

I pulled the plug on all things Meta over the weekend – a step I honestly thought I’d never ever do.

See, I’m disabled, immunocompromised, chronically ill, and I work from home. In addition, for multiple years I was primary caretaker for my husband after a workplace accident left him with a mTBI and post-concussion syndrome. He was off work from March 2019 to November 2025, to give y’all an idea of how bad it was.

In that same time period I had 5 surgeries, sepsis, and one time a week in hospital with C Diff.

Facebook and to a lesser extent Instagram got me through those horrid times; I have genuine friendships with folks I know IRL and folks I met online decades ago and those were the primary mediums for my support and socializing.

What changed?

Well, it’s not so much that Zuck changed, just that he really leaned into the skeevy shit that led him to create FB in the first place.

It’s a well-known saying that if something is free, you are the product. And boy howdy did that a$$hole lean into that!

The election interference, the buying of presidents and other officials, the unchecked and unmitigated hate speech, the horrid AI slop, the feeds jammed so full of random shite that I couldn’t even find the people for whom I was on the platform in the first place, the privacy and security violations with their Muse AI…it all came to a head with the new TOS going into effect the end of Oct. 2026.

Anyway, all that to say I am back to the ways of being that happened during the Great Blog Era, combined with microposting the way I did on Meta, and the way I still do on Bluesky and increasingly, on Gander.
